WooSaders FAQs

Q: What age group should my child play on tournament teams?

A: Your child should play in their youngest age group when participating in tournament teams. Unlike recreational leagues where playing in your age group is the norm, tournament teams typically consist of the best and most competitive players. By placing your child in their youngest age group, we ensure they are challenged and able to compete at their optimal level, fostering an environment that promotes growth, skill development, and a commitment to excellence in their chosen sport.

Q: What flags are required for tournament play with the WooSaders?

A: Unlike recreational leagues, tournament teams like the WooSaders do not typically wear the same flags. All players on the WooSaders are required to purchase their own Shruumz flags, which are standard for tournaments. These flags are specifically designed for competitive play, adding an extra layer of intensity to the game. Make sure to equip yourself with these Shruumz flags to ensure you're fully prepared to engage in the spirited and competitive atmosphere of tournament play with the WooSaders.

Q: Can I play on other flag teams while being part of the WooSaders?

A: Absolutely! In fact, we encourage players to participate in other flag teams. The more diverse experiences and coaching you receive, the better athlete you become. However, it's important to be mindful that being on a tournament team like the WooSaders requires a more significant commitment compared to a recreational league. Balancing multiple flag teams is possible, but please consider the dedication required for optimal performance and team synergy.

Q: What is the cost associated with joining the WooSaders?

A: The total cost varies based on several factors, encompassing uniform expenses, flag costs, field availability for practice, and tournament fees. To provide a general overview, the uniform typically amounts to around $175, flags are priced at $30.00, and each tournament incurs a fee of $75. Over the course of a season, you can anticipate participating in at least six tournaments. Keep in mind that these figures offer a high-level breakdown, and the total cost may fluctuate based on additional factors.

Q: What type of athlete is the WooSaders looking for?

A: While it's challenging to define the ideal athlete in precise terms, we value certain qualities that contribute to a positive team dynamic. Key attributes include athleticism and coachability. We seek individuals who can attentively listen and absorb coaching feedback with a calm and level-headed approach. Effort and a positive attitude are pivotal qualities that our coaching staff values highly.
Moreover, we emphasize holistic development, taking into account factors beyond the field. Maintaining focus on school work is crucial, as education aligns with our philosophy. We believe in fostering well-rounded individuals who contribute positively to their personal growth beyond the football field.

Q: What is the time commitment for joining the WooSaders?

A: The time commitment at each level is contingent upon the coaching staff'. As a general guideline, expect at least once-a-week practices, with a potential increase to twice a week leading up to tournaments. These practices are typically held in the greater Worcester area and are considered mandatory for all players.
In addition to team practices, it is highly encouraged that each player dedicates independent time for skill development. Participating in various clinics and working on personal improvement outside of regular team sessions contributes significantly to individual progress and team success. The Woosaders value a well-rounded approach to player development, balancing both team and individual efforts.

Q: What are the seasons for the WooSaders team?

A: The WooSaders operate with two core seasons - spring and summer, as well as fall and winter. Throughout these seasons, there may be additional tryouts to identify and bring on new talent. These tryouts also serve to reevaluate each team's needs, ensuring that the roster is dynamic and responsive to evolving requirements.

We ask players to commit to at least one season, recognizing that this commitment fosters a cohesive team environment and allows for sustained player development. The structured two-season approach allows for comprehensive growth and strategic team building throughout the year.

Q: Can you fundraise for your athlete with the WooSaders?

A: Yes, gifting to help subsidize a player's team cost is an option, and as the program grows, a more structured team approach will develop. We encourage parents to collaborate with one another and within the team to create different fundraising programs. It is important to note that all fundraising programs must be approved by James King and his committee, following any community guidelines as needed. This collaborative effort ensures transparency, accountability, and adherence to the established standards within the WooSaders community.

Q: How can I pay for the Team fees over time?

A: The initial fee for the uniform is mandatory at the time of commitment. The remaining tournament fees can be conveniently split over a four-month period, providing flexibility in managing payments. In the event of any gifting towards your account, these contributions are credited towards your last payment owed (the fourth month), working backward. This payment structure is designed to accommodate financial considerations and ensure that each member of The Team can comfortably contribute to their fees over time.
